The mission of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children is to help prevent child abduction and sexual exploitation; find missing children; and assist victims of child abduction and sexual exploitation, their families, and the professionals who serve them. We were created in 1984. Since then we have handled more than 1.8 million calls for service on our toll-free Hotline 1-800-THE LOST (1-800-843-5678); have received more than 226,000 reports to our reporting web site, cybertipline.com, trained more than 186,000 law-enforcement and other professionals, worked on more than 98,000 cases; and played a role in the recovery of more than 82,000 children.
