Minority Outreach
The second National Incidence Studies of Missing, Abducted, Runaway,
and Thrownaway Children (NISMART-2) reported that "The percentages
of minority children among missing children appears slightly higher than
their percentages in the U.S. child population." The Minority Outreach
Program was created to increase awareness of problems associated with
missing and exploited African American and Hispanic children. The goals
of the program are to educate families about
- Measures to help keep children safer from potential predators
- Response practices in the unfortunate event a child becomes missing
- How to recognize symptoms in suspected cases of sexual exploitation
The program also provides information to families and individuals about
what to do, who to call, and what other actions may be required to address
the needs of their children.
